Canada’s national police force announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man from Montreal has been arrested for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause death or bodily harm, as stated in an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly conveyed in an email sent to various undisclosed individuals, including a senator, according to the police. In addition to targeting the Prime Minister, Porlier also allegedly threatened “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the official charge sheet.
It was confirmed by the police that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017. He was reported to be on probation for those offenses, as per an RCMP representative. Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as mentioned in the news release, with the charges against him yet to be proven in court.
