Venezuela’s opposition leader has sparked controversy by suggesting she would offer her Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump following accusations of disrespect towards the US President.
María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her prolonged resistance against the Venezuelan government under Maduro. Despite being seen as a potential leader for Venezuela, her Nobel Prize win reportedly irked Trump, who believed he deserved the accolade for his efforts in resolving conflicts.
Insiders in Washington revealed that Trump felt Machado should have endorsed him for the peace prize. In response, Machado expressed her willingness to personally present the award to Trump.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized Machado’s advocacy against dictatorship when awarding her the prize on October 10. In an unexpected move, she dedicated the prize to Trump, praising his actions and potentially risking her political future in Venezuela.
