A tragic incident occurred as a man lost his life in a shooting at his residence while attempting to sell an iPhone through a Facebook Marketplace transaction. Michael Ryan Burke, a 42-year-old U.S. Marine veteran, used his final moments to contact emergency services and bid farewell to his family before succumbing to fatal gunshot wounds in his Missouri home. The Columbia Police Department reported that the fatal encounter took place around 8:15 pm local time at Ridgemont Court in Columbia, prompting a swift response from law enforcement after receiving reports of gunfire.
Despite being critically injured, Burke managed to provide a description of the suspects to authorities before being transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. Subsequently, law enforcement apprehended three 18-year-olds and one juvenile male in connection with Burke’s death, charging them with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. The accused individuals, identified as Kobe Aust, Joseph Crane, Alexis Baumann, and a male juvenile, are currently detained without bail at the Boone County Jail and the Boone County Juvenile Office, respectively.
Following a review of Burke’s Facebook messages, investigators discovered communication related to the sale of his iPhone 15 Pro, valued at approximately $585, with one of the suspects. Burke shared his address with the individual, who confirmed their arrival at his residence shortly before the tragic incident unfolded. Jerry Reifeiss, a close friend of Burke, described him as a selfless individual who prioritized expressing love and ensuring justice for others, even in his final moments.
