“Racing Legend Rachael Blackmore Expecting First Child”

Racing legend Rachael Blackmore, who retired recently, has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child, expecting with fellow jockey Brian Hayes. The couple, who got married in a small ceremony in West Cork on January 5 after a decade-long relationship, shared the happy news on Rachael’s Instagram story.

The 36-year-old, known for her groundbreaking achievements in horse racing, including being the first woman to win the Grand National and to be the leading jockey at Cheltenham, posted a picture on Instagram showing a baby pram in the boot of her Volvo car.

During her illustrious career, the Tipperary-born rider secured 575 wins before retiring in May last year, notably winning with Minella Times at Aintree in 2021. She dominated the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, claiming 18 victories, including major races like the Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup.

Recognized for her outstanding performances, Rachael was awarded the World Sports Star at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards in 2021. She was also honored by Cheltenham racecourse, entering the track’s hall of fame as the greatest female jump jockey of all time.

Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years, met during the early stages of their racing careers at a stable in Co Carlow. Despite both being jockeys, they seldom discuss racing at home, as Rachael mentioned in 2021. Upon retiring, Rachael credited Brian’s significant influence on her career, expressing her gratitude for his support.

The couple, often seen together at various events like Wimbledon and music festivals, are expecting their first child amid their shared passion for horse racing. Brian, 34, has had a successful 17-year career as a jockey, riding for prominent figures like Willie Mullins and achieving a Cheltenham Festival win.
