The Winter Olympics village reportedly faces a shortage of condoms despite distributing 10,000 free condoms to athletes. The living quarters for Olympians are known for their passionate atmosphere, with numerous stories of romance and intimacy emerging over time.
To address potential issues, organizers have provided free contraceptives. However, while 200,000 condoms were distributed at the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only 10,000 were offered at Milano Cortina. This distribution proved insufficient considering that there were approximately 10,500 competitors in Paris compared to just under 3,000 in northern Italy.
An anonymous athlete revealed to Italian newspaper La Stampa that the condom supplies ran out in three days, with uncertain restocking timelines. In an effort to curb off-camera activities, Olympic officials have introduced “anti-sex” beds, but the cardboard design has not deterred athletes.
Notably, this is not the first time condoms have run out at the Olympics. In Sydney 2000, organizers had to order an additional 20,000 after exhausting the initial 70,000 allocation. An outbreak of a sexually transmitted infection would pose a significant risk to the Games, emphasizing the importance of health precautions.
A former Olympic gold medallist highlighted the village’s lively nature, acknowledging the prevalent romantic engagements among athletes. The athlete emphasized the open atmosphere regarding intimacy and the provision of ample condoms. The ongoing Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games offer over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video, with a £3.99 Entertainment subscription granting access to continuous Olympic coverage on TNT Sports 2.
