“Fireworks Safety: Guidelines to Follow for New Year Celebrations”

As the New Year approaches, many people look forward to celebrating with fireworks displays. Whether attending public shows or setting off their own fireworks, it’s essential to follow strict guidelines to ensure safety and compliance with the law.

Throughout the year, individuals in the UK are reminded to adhere to specific timing regulations when using fireworks to avoid violating laws, especially during festive seasons like Christmas and New Year’s Eve. While some plan home firework displays to mark the occasion, others anticipate the annual televised event in London.

Although fireworks can be purchased from supermarkets rather than licensed shops during this time of year, it is crucial to observe important regulations to prevent harm, distress, and noise disturbances to the public. For instance, on ordinary days, fireworks cannot be ignited between 11pm and 7am, except for special occasions. On New Year’s Eve/Day, fireworks can be set off from 7am to 1am.

Similar rules apply during Diwali and Chinese New Year, allowing fireworks between 7am and 1am. For Bonfire Night, the deadline is midnight. It is imperative to note that individuals must be at least 18 years old to buy fireworks, and it is illegal to use fireworks in public spaces or on the street.

Fireworks and sparklers for personal use can only be purchased during specific periods, and buying them outside of these times is unlawful unless from licensed outlets. Violating firework laws could result in severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment. It is advisable to check your local council’s website for any area-specific regulations related to fireworks.
