“Outrage as McDonald’s Hash Brown Price Approaches £2”

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing discontent following a social media post that unveiled the soaring cost of a hash brown, reaching nearly £2 at select restaurants.

The viral post showcased a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu board featuring a £1.99 price tag for a single hash brown, triggering backlash from customers who deemed it excessive. With over 459,000 views, the post was captioned: “£2 for one solitary hash brown. We are officially done.”

Reactions poured in, with one individual stating, “It’s just outrageous; I rarely visit, but it used to be an affordable choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third succinctly expressed, “Madness.”

Further commentary included, “Those hash browns are fantastic, but £2 is simply too much,” and a nostalgic recollection of when they were priced at 59p.

In response, a McDonald’s representative clarified that franchisees independently determine pricing in a significant portion of their establishments. They emphasized a shared commitment to delivering a superior dining experience and value for customers.

The discussion arose amidst McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming adjustment to the redemption requirements for free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Presently, 5,500 points are needed for selections like a Big Mac or Nine Chicken Nuggets, but starting March 17, this will increase to 6,500 points. Customers earn 100 points per £1 spent at McDonald’s.

The loyalty scheme modifications, attributed to escalating food and operational expenses, aim to balance cost pressures. While points thresholds for various items will rise, new offerings like Chicken Selects and Sausage Sandwiches have been introduced to enhance customer choice and satisfaction.
