A mother shared her heartbreaking story of losing both her daughter and granddaughter within hours of each other. Mellodie-Ocean Jarman, a 19-year-old pregnant woman from Atherton, Greater Manchester, was rushed to Royal Bolton Hospital at 33 weeks gestation due to breathing difficulties and vision problems. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, Mellodie went into cardiac arrest and underwent an emergency C-section. Tragically, she passed away shortly after giving birth to baby Athena-Pearl, who also did not survive.
Justine Ryan, Mellodie’s mother, was present during the devastating events and expressed her deep sorrow at losing her daughter and first grandchild. Mellodie’s boyfriend, Daniel Derbyshire, recounted the emotional ordeal of having to make the difficult decision to remove Athena-Pearl from life support after doctors informed him that it was causing her distress.
Prior to these tragic events, Mellodie had experienced dizziness during a routine pregnancy scan and was discharged with iron supplements. Justine regretted not insisting on Mellodie staying in the hospital that day. Mellodie’s condition deteriorated rapidly after returning home, culminating in her passing away in her mother’s arms.
The family’s harrowing experience serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the unforeseeable nature of tragedy.
