Having clinched the U.S. Open doubles titles in 1999 and 2009, the Williams sisters boast a record of 27 wins and 7 losses in their nine appearances together. Their most recent outing was in 2022, where they were knocked out in the opening round, marking what was anticipated to be Serena’s final match at Flushing Meadows. While the 44-year-old Serena paired with Carlos Alcaraz for mixed doubles, securing a victory before exiting in the quarterfinals, her elder sister Venus, 46, is competing in the women’s singles category.
The formidable duo has a remarkable history, having claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and Olympic gold medals in 2000, 2008, and 2012. They also held the top spot in the women’s doubles ranking for eight weeks. Serena, choosing not to compete in singles at this year’s U.S. Open, received wild card entries for both doubles events.
Their success at the U.S. Open started when Serena won her first singles title, coinciding with their initial doubles triumph. Their reign as a dominant pairing peaked around a decade later with victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2009, followed by a successful defense of their U.S. Open title.
