A young man who previously appeared on the Greek version of the popular competition show “Survivor” is taking legal action against the program’s creators following a severe boating incident that resulted in the amputation of his leg. Stavros Floros, now 22, has filed a lawsuit in a Florida court seeking $100 million in damages.
During Season 13 of Survivor Greece, Floros was involved in a spearfishing activity with another contestant off the coast of the Dominican Republic on May 11. A tourist boat accidentally collided with Floros, leading to the amputation of his left leg above the knee and causing serious injuries to his right leg.
After the accident, Floros was initially treated at a local medical facility before being transferred to a hospital in Miami, where he underwent multiple surgeries and spent 61 days in recovery. Graphic images of Floros following the incident were published by TMZ, highlighting the extent of his injuries.
Despite the immediate suspension of Survivor Greece by Skai TV, the network that airs the show, Floros claims that he did not receive adequate support from the production company AcunMedya. In a statement to TheWrap, Floros expressed his disappointment with the lack of care and support he received after the life-altering incident.
The lawsuit, filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, lists AcunMedya, AcunMedya Global, Acun LLC, Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali, and the parent company of Skai TV as defendants. It alleges negligence on the part of the production team for failing to implement safety measures despite the known risks of high boat traffic in the area where the incident occurred.
Floros, along with other cast members, detailed the events leading up to the accident in court documents. The lawsuit contends that the production team did not take necessary precautions despite the presence of commercial and tourist boats in the vicinity. Malliaros, another contestant, corroborated Floros’s account of the incident and criticized the lack of protection provided to the contestants.
Floros pointed out that his decision to participate in Survivor Greece was influenced by the show’s ties to Florida, where past seasons were filmed, and the promise of a luxury trip to Miami for the winner. The legal action also highlights Ilicali’s alleged involvement in decision-making related to contestant safety from his residence in Miami Beach.
AcunMedya, the production company responsible for Survivor Greece and other international editions of the franchise, has yet to respond to requests for comment. Floros’s legal representatives have emphasized the significance of holding the responsible parties accountable for the traumatic incident that has forever altered his life.
