Anton Amundrud resides in a typical college house near the University of Saskatchewan campus, accessed through 16 stairs leading to the top floor. Among the residents are five University of Saskatchewan Huskies football players, including the quarterback, Anton Amundrud. In the previous season, Amundrud showcased exceptional performance, averaging 328 yards passing per game without any interceptions, making him a strong contender for the Hec Crighton Trophy.
However, a few months later, Amundrud faced a drastic transformation due to his health condition. Diagnosed with T-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, he underwent intense chemotherapy, leading to significant weight loss and physical weakness. Climbing the 16 stairs to his bedroom became a challenging task, taking him four minutes to accomplish.
Despite the hardships, Amundrud’s determination to return to the field never wavered. After months of grueling treatments and recovery, he received the long-awaited news of being cancer-free. His journey of resilience and perseverance culminates in his comeback as the starting quarterback for the Saskatchewan Huskies in the upcoming season opener against the Manitoba Bisons. With unwavering support from his family, teammates, and medical team, Amundrud’s inspiring story reflects his unyielding spirit and determination to overcome adversity.
As Amundrud embarks on his final season, his remarkable recovery and triumphant return to the football field stand as a testament to his courage and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.
