CBC’s reality show, “The Assembly,” is set to launch its second season with six new famous interviews and an expanded ensemble of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults posing the questions. Notable celebrities like Hudson Williams (“Heated Rivalry”), Zach Galifianakis (“The Hangover”), and Jay Baruchel (“This is the End”) will be featured in this season.
The upcoming six-episode series will showcase personalities such as actor and Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull (“North of North”), singer-songwriter Lights, and three-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity will undergo an unscripted interview, delving into unconventional and personal topics beyond the usual promotional discourse.
The show’s appeal lies in its candid nature, allowing for genuine connections and moments of humor. The format of “The Assembly” is inspired by the French program “Les Rencontres du Papotin,” which hosted notable figures like “Killing Eve” star Camille Cottin and French President Emmanuel Macron in 2022. The show has gained international recognition, featuring guests such as actors Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Stephen Fry.
“The Assembly” season 1 was honored with a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival. The show also received a Banff Rockie Award nomination. CBC’s Jennifer Dettman, executive director of unscripted content, expressed excitement about the audience’s positive response to the first season’s fresh and honest energy.
Executive producers Stephen Sawchuk and Sean De Vries promise that the new season will deliver more heartfelt, humorous, and authentic conversations. Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, “The Assembly” season 2 premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem, with extended “producer’s cuts” exclusively available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
