Buses transporting sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier arrived in Pattaya, Thailand, following an extensive deployment to the Middle East. During this deployment, the USS Abraham Lincoln broke a record for continuous days at sea, surpassing 260 days. Recent concerns surrounding crew mental health and food shortages arose as a result.
Despite these challenges, the U.S. Navy downplayed the issues, with President Donald Trump remarking that the deployment was insufficiently long. The total deployment duration of the USS Abraham Lincoln reached 286 days, with 264 consecutive days at sea before reaching Chonburi province.
The ship is set to depart Thailand soon on its journey back to the U.S. Upon arriving in Pattaya, service members expressed excitement about being in Thailand. Vendors and travel agents gathered outside the designated hotel for the sailors, offering various souvenirs and services.
Two other ships from the USS Abraham Lincoln’s strike group are currently docked in Thailand, with the destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. in Chonburi’s Sriracha port and the cruiser USS Robert Smalls in Rayong province. Local vendors, like A-ngoon Sombat, seized the opportunity to sell their goods to the visiting crew members.
As the service members explored Pattaya, the spirits were high among them. A young navigator aboard the Petersen expressed relief at being closer to home after his first deployment. The community outside Laem Chabang Port became a small attraction as people gathered to catch a glimpse of the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Among the onlookers was American Keith Eldridge, who marveled at the engineering prowess of the massive aircraft carrier. Captain Dan Keeler, the commanding officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln, hinted at potential supply stops before the ship heads back home. The exact return date of the strike group remains undisclosed.
