The Canadian national women’s basketball team concluded the preliminary stage of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with a 70-64 victory against Mexico, the tournament’s host, in Guadalajara on Thursday night. Yvonne Ejim contributed 19 points to Canada’s 3-0 record, while Syla Swords added 17 points to the score. Mariana Valenzuela scored 17 points for Mexico.
In the upcoming semifinals on Saturday, Canada is set to face New Zealand, while the host nation will compete against Brazil. The championship game will take place on Sunday. The victorious team in the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
