John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence the organization’s future direction. His term officially commences on October 1, coinciding with this year’s festival scheduled from September 10 to 20. Tory takes over the position previously held by Jeffrey Remedios, who served as chair starting in 2021.

Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in the role he played in the festival’s evolution. Additionally, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who had been on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
