After an intense few days at the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the first phase of the competition is coming to a close. The Corner Brook Civic Centre was buzzing with activity as ball hockey players from various parts of the province vied for medals on Tuesday.
In the gold medal match, Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Team Avalon. Raine Foss, a thirteen-year-old player from Paradise, scored the deciding goal and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “It’s great to represent MPS. This is a unique experience that I cherish.”
Teammate Reid Swain shared his excitement about clinching the gold medal, saying, “We’ve been working hard for months, and winning this was unexpected but incredibly satisfying.”
While Ryan Walsh of Team Avalon didn’t achieve the medal color he aimed for, he highlighted the enjoyable moments and camaraderie experienced during the event, emphasizing the fun he had with his teammates.
Team Central secured the bronze medal, a proud achievement for fourteen-year-old Jack Stone from Grand Falls-Windsor, who described the feeling as “ecstatic.” Stone emphasized the unpredictability of tournaments and the satisfaction of returning home with a medal.
This Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games ball hockey event brought together athletes from across the region, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship on the ice.
