Among those present were long-time friend and manager Paul Speak, Ricky’s father Ray, brother Matthew, and former partner Jennifer Dooley. The former world champion, aged 46, was found at his £1.7 million home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14 of the previous year. Paul Speak discovered him unresponsive at the property, having last been seen alive by family members two days prior.
The coroner, Alison Mutch, stated that despite evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy and alcohol influence, there was no clear indication that Hatton intended to end his life. The inquest revealed that Hatton spent quality time with his daughters and granddaughter at a pub just before his passing, appearing normal and making plans for an upcoming boxing exhibition in Dubai. His son, Campbell, expressed that the family believed his father’s death was not premeditated and that Hatton seemed to be in a positive state before his demise.
Post-mortem results indicated the presence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain condition often associated with repetitive head injuries, particularly in boxers. These findings shed light on Hatton’s health condition prior to his tragic death. Family members, visibly distraught, left the coroner’s court without making statements, underscoring the emotional toll of the loss. Hatton’s family and loved ones continue to mourn his passing, remembering him as a devoted family man who valued his loved ones above all else.
