EasyJet Flight Diverted to Edinburgh Due to Weather

An easyJet flight had to make an unplanned landing during the weekend due to a sudden change in its route caused by adverse weather conditions. The flight, originally scheduled from Manchester to Reykjavik, was diverted to Edinburgh on Sunday evening. The flight, with the number U22261, departed from Manchester Airport at 5:45 pm and was supposed to arrive in Reykjavik at 6:40 pm but landed in Edinburgh at around 10:20 pm instead.

According to easyJet, the diversion was necessary due to low visibility, with flight tracking data showing the plane rerouting at Keflavik, Iceland’s main international airport, due to the weather conditions. Passengers were apologized to by easyJet, which arranged a replacement flight for the next day, emphasizing safety as its top priority and attributing the disruption to circumstances beyond its control.

An update from easyJet shared by EdinburghLive stated that adverse weather conditions and low visibility in Keflavik prevented the flight from operating as scheduled, leading to an overnight delay and a rescheduled departure for the following day. The airline expressed gratitude for passengers’ understanding and clarified that the situation was considered an extraordinary circumstance.

Reflecting on the incident, a spokesperson for easyJet informed the Mirror that adverse weather conditions necessitated the diversion of flight EZY2261 from Manchester to Keflavik to Edinburgh. The flight was eventually rescheduled to operate the next day, with efforts made to minimize customer impact by providing accommodation and meals. Despite the circumstances being beyond the airline’s control, apologies were extended for any inconvenience caused by the weather.

In a separate incident, a Ryanair flight bound for Tenerife had to return to the UK after encountering air turbulence shortly after takeoff. The Boeing 737 MAX flight, numbered FR1121, departed from Birmingham Airport and issued a 7700 squawk code over France at 35,000 feet due to the turbulence. The aircraft landed safely back in Birmingham, where some passengers needed medical assistance before the flight resumed to Tenerife and landed safely.

Ryanair confirmed the incident, stating that flight FR1121 from Birmingham to Tenerife returned to Birmingham due to air turbulence, with normal landing procedures followed, passengers provided with medical attention, and the flight subsequently continuing to Tenerife as scheduled.
