China Joins Call for Release of Maduro Amid Global Tension

China has joined Russia in a stern demand for the release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were apprehended by Delta Force troops. The couple is set to face narco-terrorism charges in a New York court following their transfer to the US.

In response, the Chinese foreign ministry urged the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, emphasizing the need to respect international law. Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a veiled reference to the United States, commented on the global turbulence, emphasizing the importance of respecting nations’ chosen development paths and adhering to international law.

China has maintained a close relationship with Venezuela, providing significant support during times of economic hardship. The Chinese government condemned the US operation as a violation of international norms and called for a peaceful resolution through dialogue.

Meanwhile, Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced Maduro’s arrest as an illegal act and called for his immediate release. She expressed a willingness to cooperate with the US for mutual development within the boundaries of international law.

The European Union also expressed concern over the situation, calling for restraint and dialogue to uphold the Venezuelan people’s right to determine their future. The UK government, while not directly involved in the operation, acknowledged the need for the US to clarify its legal basis for the intervention.

As Maduro awaits his court appearance in New York, the international community continues to monitor the unfolding events, emphasizing the importance of upholding international norms and respecting sovereignty.
