A little over a year ago, shortly after Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, I participated in a panel discussion at an event. Despite my jetlag, I predicted that the 2029 election might not happen. This forecast was met with nervous laughter from the audience and my fellow panelists. While I usually take pleasure in being correct, this prediction brings little satisfaction.
Currently, Donald Trump is gradually revealing his intentions, and the mood has shifted from amusement to concern. Dan Bongino, formerly the deputy Director of the FBI, has returned to his role as a podcaster. In his first show back, he featured Donald J Trump as a guest. During the interview, Trump, amidst his usual bravado, made a striking statement regarding the 2020 election results and proposed significant changes to the electoral process in the United States.
Trump’s suggestion to have Republicans take control of voting processes in multiple locations is particularly alarming, given that election administration is primarily the responsibility of individual state governments. He also hinted at potential revelations from the recent FBI raid on an election headquarters in Georgia. These statements align with his previous assertions about the authority of the Federal Government in election matters.
While no official executive order has been issued yet, it is anticipated that one may surface before the upcoming election season. Notably, Karoline Leavitt addressed questions about the presence of Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, at the Georgia raid. Leavitt explained that Gabbard was tasked to oversee election security in collaboration with the FBI.
In another development, Trump has announced plans to temporarily close and reconstruct the Kennedy Centre, a prominent cultural venue in the US. This decision has raised eyebrows, especially given the historical significance of the venue dedicated to President John F Kennedy. Additionally, Trump’s legal battle with the IRS over leaked tax information has garnered attention, marking a unique clash between a sitting president and a government agency.
Amidst these events, former UK Ambassador to Washington, Peter Mandelson, has retired from the House of Lords following revelations in the Epstein files. This move suggests a potential end to his public career, given the gravity of the uncovered scandals. As Trump continues to navigate legal challenges and assert his influence, the political landscape remains unpredictable and contentious.
