A celebrated jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, in 2023, faced a harrowing experience when a group of assailants attempted to steal her car. The criminals vandalized her vehicle, causing significant injuries to her face and body, just three weeks before her scheduled wedding day. Despite the attackers fleeing the scene upon detection, they evaded capture. Recounting the ordeal, Logan described the excruciating pain of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse as the most intense sensation she had ever endured.
During the incident, Logan was riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her spouse Tommy, who had previously achieved success in their races together. The mishap occurred when the six-year-old horse became startled by an unknown stimulus. Logan recounted the moment the horse reared up at the starting gate, causing her to fall to the ground with the horse collapsing on top of her, resulting in a crushing blow to her pelvis.
Following the accident, Logan was swiftly attended by medical personnel who administered pain relief and secured her with a pelvic brace for transportation to Darwin Royal Hospital. Due to the severity of her pelvic injury, she was later transferred to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment. Reflecting on the severity of her injuries, Logan explained that her pelvis had been severely crushed, necessitating surgical intervention with the insertion of screws and a plate to stabilize her hip.
Despite the traumatic incident, Logan expressed gratitude for narrowly escaping a potentially fatal outcome, acknowledging the severity of her injuries as the worst pain she had ever experienced. Currently recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame, Logan anticipates a prolonged rehabilitation period of six to eight months before contemplating a return to horse riding, her ultimate goal.
Moreover, Logan’s resilience and determination were evident as she delved into competitive bodybuilding to overcome her mental distress and anxiety following the traumatic events. Supported by a dedicated network of individuals, including her husband Tommy, Logan remains optimistic about her recovery journey and is appreciative of the unwavering support she has received throughout the challenging period.
