A young British boy tragically lost his life in Portugal while attempting to protect his mother from her former abusive partner, according to his grieving grandmother. The 13-year-old, identified as Alfie Hallett, sustained fatal injuries from a bladed weapon during an incident in Tomar, Portugal. Allegedly, he was attacked by his mother’s ex-boyfriend, Goncalo Carvalho, who perished in a suspected gas explosion following the altercation, leaving the mother as the sole survivor.
Linda Hallett, Alfie’s grandmother, expressed her belief that the teen heroically sacrificed himself to shield his mother and described him as a kind-hearted and gentle boy. She shared that she had lost contact with Alfie in recent years and was devastated to learn of his death on Christmas Eve morning.
Mrs. Hallett disclosed that Alfie’s mother had relocated to Portugal without informing his father, Mark, and only revealed their whereabouts after separating from her partner, Paulo. Mark eventually reconnected with his son with the help of the Portuguese courts and reunited with him during a visit to Portugal.
Tragically, Alfie and his mother were assaulted by Carvalho, a former convict who had served time for a violent crime in the past. The authorities found signs of restraint and assault on the mother, who survived the attack and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident also involved a gas explosion at the scene, causing further injuries to law enforcement personnel. Carvalho had a history of domestic violence, as indicated by previous police records.
This incident sheds light on the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the lasting impact it can have on families.
