“13-Year-Old Raises $21K for Make-A-Wish Canada”

A 13-year-old teenager from Cape Breton managed to raise $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada through a hotdog stand and generous donations. Jake Campbell and his family sold hotdogs last weekend, using supplies donated by No Frills and Wonder Bread. Last year, they raised $3,000 through a similar initiative, but this year, Campbell aimed to double that amount, which they successfully accomplished.

The hotdog stand was set up by Campbell and his family in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S. In addition to the proceeds from hotdog sales, individuals also made cash donations. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada’s Nova Scotia chapter, expressed gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support.

Last year, Campbell received an award from Make-A-Wish Canada for his fundraising efforts, which motivated him to surpass his previous achievements this year. The funds raised by the Campbells will be utilized to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia on the foundation’s waiting list. Previous wishes granted ranged from creating accessible spaces for outdoor activities to family trips.

Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, stating that it benefits not only the children but their families as well. He expressed satisfaction in contributing to potentially fulfilling the final wishes of children in need. Although Campbell is unsure of the exact contribution from hotdog sales, he has ambitious plans for next year’s fundraising efforts.
