“Woman Fatally Shot by Husband in Front of Children”

A man faced court charges for fatally shooting his wife in front of their children as she tried calling the police. Jeri Mains, aged 44, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital after being shot in the driveway of a residence in southeast Indianapolis, Indiana on December 28. Her spouse, Cecil Mains, 47, was arrested and charged with murder following the incident.

Prosecutors disclosed that Jeri’s children made distress calls to emergency services reporting that Cecil had shot their mother before fleeing in his grey Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Cecil Mains was apprehended at a junction in southwest Indianapolis and taken into custody.

According to official documents, Cecil had arrived at the house earlier that day, retrieved a firearm from a safe, and engaged in a physical altercation with Jeri upon her return. The children intervened, but Cecil ended up shooting Jeri twice, fatally hitting her heart, liver, and spine.

Jeri’s brother informed detectives that Cecil had a history of physical abuse towards her and had previously been asked to leave the family home due to infidelity. The family recalled threats from Cecil to harm Jeri and other members, with Jeri’s daughter obtaining a restraining order against him on Christmas Day, three days before the tragic incident.

Allegedly, Cecil had threatened Jeri and himself when she mentioned divorce on December 23, resulting in her suffering injuries from an altercation on Christmas Day. Cecil Mains remained silent upon his arrest, requested legal representation, and was detained without bail at Marion County jail pending further legal proceedings.

A fundraising page has been established to aid Jeri’s four children, aged 19, 17, 14, and 10. Marion County Prosecutor, Ryan Mears, expressed deep sympathy for the children, labeling the case as profoundly distressing.
