Pub chain Wetherspoons has unveiled its own January promotion, offering pints starting at just 99p. The company will provide discounted prices on various beverages and food items, with founder and chairman Tim Martin noting the strategic timing coinciding with traditional sales in retail stores.
The special promotion will take place from January 2 to January 15, extending to Scottish locations from January 3. Among the discounted drinks are Worthington’s beer at 99p, Coldwater Creek wine at £2.99 per 250ml glass, Johnnie Walker Black Label and Tanqueray gin at £1.99 each.
Additionally, Wetherspoons will feature reduced prices on low-alcohol and alcohol-free drinks, catering to customers observing “dry January” after the festive season. The chain will offer various non-alcoholic options such as Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero, and Brewdog Punk AF.
On the food menu, customers can enjoy an 11-inch margherita pizza or a crunchy chicken burger with chips or a side salad for £4.99 with a soft drink or £6.52 with an alcoholic beverage. Jacket potatoes with fillings will be available at similar price points, with gourmet options priced slightly higher.
The promotional prices will be accessible at more than 600 Wetherspoons establishments, with variations at the remaining 200 locations. Martin expressed confidence that the January Sale will appeal to a wide range of tastes and preferences, emphasizing responsible service by the staff.
Wetherspoons has a history of offering discounted deals, having previously sold pints at reduced rates to highlight disparities in taxes between pubs and supermarkets. Despite challenges in the pub industry, the chain has maintained healthy trade, reporting positive sales figures in recent trading updates.
