Wes Streeting denies any plans for a joint leadership bid with Angela Rayner for Downing Street. The Health Secretary firmly rejected the notion following recent reports suggesting his associates were trying to persuade the former Deputy Prime Minister, Ms. Rayner, to support him with a promise of a Cabinet position.
During an LBC call-in, Streeting was directly asked about a potential leadership challenge with Rayner, to which he promptly responded with a chuckle and a clear “Yes” to ruling it out. His spokesperson previously dismissed the claims as unfounded, labeling them as a “silly season story.”
Expressing frustration with Labour’s current strategy, Streeting criticized the party’s failure to effectively communicate its accomplishments. He highlighted the risk of being perceived as merely a maintenance department by the public, emphasizing the importance of better storytelling to convey the government’s achievements.
Streeting reiterated the need for all government officials, especially those in the Cabinet, to enhance the government’s messaging. He emphasized the significance of concise and engaging communication to ensure that the public remembers and understands the government’s initiatives and objectives.
