Wakefield Council Distributes £70 Supermarket Vouchers

Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses. The initiative is part of the Household Support Fund, managed by Wakefield Council. The fund encompasses various forms of assistance, including energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants.

The vouchers are being distributed to low-income households that receive council tax support. Pensioners under Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.

Families under Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15, while other qualifying households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12. Eligible recipients will automatically receive the vouchers within 14 days of the specified dates, without the need for application. Residents are advised by Wakefield Council to be cautious of potential scams.

For residents outside Wakefield, it is recommended to check with local authorities regarding support available through similar programs like the Household Support Fund. For instance, Blackpool Council is offering up to £300 in energy assistance to eligible households, depending on the number of individuals in the household.

Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and provide recent bank statements for all household members to claim support. Eligibility does not require receiving Universal Credit or other benefits, but only one award can be claimed per 12-month period.

Assistance is directly credited to energy providers to offset bills and can be applied for through the respective council websites. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is also issuing £120 worth of vouchers to qualifying residents, with distribution taking place in phases based on eligibility criteria. Residents on low incomes, paying energy bills, and not receiving Council Tax Reduction may also be eligible for a one-off £120 payment.
