“Unsolved Murder of Police Mechanic: Seeking Information”

Detectives are seeking information regarding the brutal unsolved murder of a police mechanic on Boxing Day three decades ago. Alan Holmes, a 53-year-old man with multiple sclerosis, was tortured in his Camden flat by assailants who tied him up, beat him, and coerced him into revealing his bank account PIN numbers. Despite efforts to locate him, Alan was discovered nine days later, bound and barely alive in his residence. Tragically, he passed away in the hospital the following day. Two individuals were believed to have carried out the vicious attack on December 26, 1995.

Following the incident, around £1,000 was withdrawn from Alan’s bank accounts using his stolen bank cards over several days. Despite a £25,000 reward, no suspects have been charged in connection with the case. The Metropolitan Police urge anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

During the initial inquiry, a DNA sample, likely belonging to the perpetrator, was obtained from the restraints used on Alan, but a match has yet to be identified. Alan’s family members described him as a gentle soul who loved poetry and exhibited kindness to everyone. He had battled multiple sclerosis and continued working as a police mechanic at Kentish Town police station until his untimely death.

On Christmas Day, Alan had dinner with friends before returning to his flat, where he was last seen. Concerned by his absence from work, authorities entered his residence on January 4, 1996, only to find him in critical condition. Medical reports indicated that Alan succumbed to a combination of dehydration and blood clots resulting from the injuries sustained during the ordeal.

Individuals with information related to this case are encouraged to contact the police at 101 or anonymously provide details to the charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
