“UK Freezes: Double Cold Weather Payments Issued”

Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to select households this week following snowfall in various parts of the UK.

Cold Weather Payments, valued at £25 each, are granted whenever the temperature in a specific location drops to zero degrees or lower for seven consecutive days. If there are multiple periods of freezing weather, individuals may receive multiple payments.

Eighteen postcode regions have now qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, after meeting the criteria on December 30 and January 6.

The Mirror recently disclosed that 451 postcode areas are eligible for Cold Weather Payments this year. To qualify for a payment, individuals must receive certain benefits or mortgage support.

Payments are typically deposited into recipients’ bank accounts automatically within 14 working days. However, individuals with a baby or a child under five years old moving in must apply to receive the payment.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) administers the Cold Weather Payments scheme, which is scheduled to operate until March 31, 2026.

Cold Weather Payments are not accessible in Scotland, where they have been substituted by the Winter Heating Payment worth £59.75.
