A trainer overseeing just a pair of horses celebrated a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. The competition featured entries from renowned stables like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle fourth-placer, Rocky’s Diamond.
Despite facing tough competition, Connor King, the handler, outpaced all contenders with Oscars Brother, expertly guided by his brother and jockey, Daniel, over the County Kildare course. Leading from the front throughout, Oscars Brother, the 7-4 favorite, delivered a strong finish, crossing the line three lengths ahead of Koktail Divin from De Bromhead’s yard.
Preparing for the three-mile challenge on soft to heavy ground, Oscars Brother had previously competed in a novice chase at Galway. The duo now anticipates the possibility of nurturing a Grade One contender within their modest yard, which houses only one other racehorse in training.
Daniel expressed his elation at securing a significant win for his brother, emphasizing the horse’s pleasant demeanor and their collective progress. Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, hinted at potential participation in the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the festive season, citing Oscars Brother’s promising transition from hurdles to fences.
Reflecting on their achievement, Connor recalled last year’s race with only three runners, envisioning it as a valuable target. The brothers remain optimistic about Oscars Brother’s future prospects, highlighting the horse’s evolving skill set and competitive spirit.
