Tragic Christmas Day Collision Claims Father of Two

A man tragically lost his life in a collision between his e-scooter and a car in Waterford, Republic of Ireland, on Christmas Day. The victim, identified as Alan Walsh in his 40s from St John’s Park, Waterford city, was riding the e-scooter when the incident occurred at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road around 11 am yesterday.

Mr. Walsh, a father of two, was swiftly taken to University Hospital Waterford (UHW), where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car involved, an octogenarian male, was also hospitalized at University Hospital Waterford for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

According to the Irish Mirror, the authorities confirmed no other injuries in the incident. Mr. Walsh, employed at O’Sullivans Bar and Restaurant, is survived by his son Sean, daughter Ava, and mourned by his grieving mother Esther, father Tommy, siblings Thomas, Mark, Lorraine, Karen, and Sarah, as well as extended family members, neighbors, and friends.

A bereaved acquaintance reminisced about shared memories, stating, “Growing up next to him, the laughter we shared will always be cherished. Keeping you in my thoughts during this challenging period.”

The thorough examination of the crash site by forensic collision specialists necessitated the closure of the street for several hours. Authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward, especially motorists with any relevant footage, such as dash-cam recordings, who were traveling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10:45 am and 11:15 am on December 25.

Those with pertinent information are urged to contact Waterford Garda Station at 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any local garda station. The Garda investigation into the incident is ongoing.
