Russell Brand Faces New Rape and Assault Charges

Russell Brand, the well-known comedian and actor, is facing additional charges of rape and sexual assault involving two women, as announced by the Metropolitan Police. These alleged incidents date back to 2009, according to the Crown Prosecution Service. Brand is scheduled to appear in court next month to address these new accusations.

The 50-year-old TV and movie personality had previously entered a plea of not guilty to five charges, which included two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. These charges stem from alleged offenses spanning from 1999 to 2005 and involving four women. Brand refuted these allegations earlier this year at Southwark Crown Court in London.

In a recent statement, the police confirmed that the CPS has approved an additional charge of rape and a charge of sexual assault in connection with two more women. Brand is set to make an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026.

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi from the Metropolitan Police stated, “The women who have come forward, including those linked to the new charges, are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers. The investigation by the Met is still ongoing, and individuals impacted by this case are encouraged to provide any relevant information to the authorities.”

The trial for the initial five charges is scheduled to take place at Southwark Crown Court on June 16, 2026. Brand faces accusations of raping a woman in a hotel room and committing sexual offenses, as reported earlier. These charges originated from an investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches program and the Sunday Times, where several women made accusations against him.

Despite the allegations, Brand has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting to his followers that he has never engaged in non-consensual activities. He rose to fame through his work on British TV, eventually achieving success in Hollywood with notable films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek.

Last year, Brand relocated with his family to Florida, where he hosts an online show called Stay Free with Russell Brand. Notably, he has also become associated with Donald Trump’s political movement, having attended Trump’s inauguration and conducted interviews with prominent figures in the administration.
