River Island to Close 32 Stores in 2026

British fashion brand River Island has revealed its intention to close 32 stores in January 2026 as part of a restructuring plan to save the well-known retailer. The company faced a pre-tax loss of £32.3 million last year, according to reports from the Express.

Currently, River Island has over 200 stores throughout the UK and employs more than 5,000 individuals, putting a significant number of jobs at risk. This year has witnessed the closure of several high-street establishments, including major supermarkets like Marks and Spencer, which recently shut down its Wolverhampton branch on Dudley Street.

In addition, Morrisons has closed more than 100 cafes, florists, and pharmacies this year, while Poundland is downsizing its 800 stores to 650, with further closures expected in 2026.

The Mirror has reached out to River Island for a statement.
