“Red Weather Alert: Deadly Floods Hit Spain’s Costa del Sol”

In a popular vacation destination for British travelers, an unusual ‘red weather alert’ has been issued, warning visitors of the heightened risk of flooding. Severe rainfall has caused chaos in Spain’s Costa del Sol and Valencia regions, leading to floods in key cities like Malaga and Marbella. Local residents have been evacuated as a significant emergency response is underway. Tragically, one of two men who went missing after being swept away by strong currents has been found dead.

The two men, aged 53 and 54, went missing in Alhaurín el Grande, Malaga, last night when their van became trapped in floodwaters. They reportedly exited the vehicle in an attempt to proceed on foot. The body of one of the men was discovered several miles away from where the van was located in the Fahala River.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining missing man, with a search operation involving 100 individuals, including police and volunteers. Spain’s meteorological agency, Aemet, has raised the alert level to the maximum for the affected areas, including Malaga, Murcia, and parts of Valencia. Forecasts predict up to 150mm of rainfall within a 12-hour period, leading to the overflowing of rivers and flooding in nearby towns and agricultural areas.

Dramatic footage shared on social media showcases the inundation of streets in Malaga and Marbella by muddy floodwaters, causing damage to vehicles and properties. The train station in Malaga has been severely affected, disrupting transportation services. Emergency services have been inundated with distress calls from residents in need of assistance.

In various locations like Cártama, Doña Ana, and Santa Amalia, rising waters have forced evacuations and safety warnings to residents. Tourists are advised to avoid travel to the hardest-hit areas, where floodwaters have reached dangerous levels. President of Andalusia Juanma Moreno has urged vigilance in Malaga as the threat of additional rainfall and flooding looms.
