“Nicolás Maduro Mocked for ‘Good Night, Happy New Year’ Statement”

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was caught on camera making an unusual statement nearly a day after being apprehended by US forces along with his spouse in Venezuela. The President and his wife have been brought to the US and are facing various charges such as Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy.

Authorities transferred the arrested Venezuelan leader via helicopter to a detention center in Brooklyn, which is said to be the same facility where prominent inmates like Sam Bankman-Fried were held previously. He was delivered to a US military base on Saturday.

In the meantime, the White House Rapid Response account reposted a video allegedly taken at the DEA headquarters in Manhattan, showing Nicolás Maduro being escorted. In the video, Maduro can be heard saying “Good night. Happy New Year,” as he was escorted by several DEA officers to his cell.

The video, shared on X, garnered multiple responses from users mocking Maduro for his hat and message. One user commented, “Poor guy has jet lag thinks it’s still new year!” Another stated, “They really rolled out the blue carpet.” Others made remarks about his outfit and speculated on the number of clothing changes he was allowed.

Maduro is scheduled to appear in federal court next week to face charges related to drug trafficking and illegal arms trade. A federal indictment accusing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, his wife, and four others of narco-terrorism conspiracy and other offenses was revealed and posted online by US Attorney General Pam Bondi following their arrest.

Apart from the narco-terrorism conspiracy charge, the indictment includes accusations of cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess such weapons.
