A young woman sustained severe injuries when a sex toy she had inserted was pulled through her body during an MRI scan. The 22-year-old had mistakenly believed the “butt plug” she used was entirely made of silicon, but it contained metal at its core. This metal core reacted with the MRI machine, causing the toy to be forcibly moved from her rectum up into her body. The incident prompted warnings against wearing metal objects during MRI scans.
An image of the incident was shared online by a social media user named DreadPirateZero on Twitter. The post described how the sex toy had been dragged through the patient’s body into their chest cavity, resulting in major injuries to the woman, who fortunately survived.
MRI scanners utilize powerful magnets to create detailed internal images for diagnostic purposes. Patients are usually checked for any metal objects before undergoing an MRI scan.
The woman did not disclose to the hospital that she had a sex toy inside her, possibly due to her belief that it didn’t contain any metal. A report by the US Department of Health and Human Services highlighted the incident, stating that the patient did not reveal the presence of the butt plug before the MRI scan.
This incident is among several serious accidents involving MRI scans in recent years. In a separate case, a man ended up with a bullet in his abdomen during an MRI scan when the machine caused his gun to discharge. Another tragic incident claimed the life of Keith McAllister, who was fatally injured when his necklace pulled him into the MRI machine.
Adrienne Jones-McAllister, Keith’s wife, recounted the harrowing incident where her husband was tragically pulled into the MRI machine by his necklace and subsequently suffered fatal injuries. MRI protocols require the removal of all jewelry and metal objects due to the strong magnetic fields generated by the machine.
