A man faced court charges for a series of disturbing crimes, including drugging and sexually assaulting his former spouse over a span of 13 years. Philip Young, previously residing in Swindon but currently based in Enfield, stands accused of 56 offenses such as multiple rapes, possession of child indecent images, and voyeurism. The 49-year-old is also alleged to have administered substances to facilitate sexual activity and possessed extreme images.
Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Young was attired in dark blue jeans and a black zip-up jumper. He confirmed his identity and location before being seated, subsequently being remanded into custody.
The victim, Joanne Young, 48, Philip’s ex-wife, has chosen to forego her right to anonymity as legal proceedings unfold. Joanne has consented to her identification in the media and is receiving support from specialized personnel and partner organizations, as noted by Wiltshire Police, who requested her privacy be honored.
Additionally, five other individuals have been charged with sexual offenses against Ms. Young during the period from 2010 to 2023, encompassing rape and sexual assault. These individuals are Norman Macksoni, Dean Hamilton, Conner Sanderson Doyle, Richard Wilkins, and Mohammed Hassan, scheduled to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court later in the day at 2pm.
Young was directed to attend Swindon Crown Court on January 23, 2026. Following the handcuffing by a dock officer, Young showed no reaction as he was escorted to the cells.
Magistrate Martin Clarke informed Young that his case would be transferred to Swindon Crown Court, inquiring if he wished to enter a plea, to which Young replied in the negative. Mr. Clarke emphasized Young’s understanding of the proceedings and the decision to remand him in custody until the scheduled date at the crown court.
Young was instructed to be present at Swindon Crown Court by 9:30 am on January 23 for a 10 am commencement.
