A major retailer is taking immediate action to remove a children’s toy from its shelves and advising customers to discontinue its use right away due to potential choking hazards for babies and toddlers.
The Office for Product Safety & Standards has stated that the John Lewis Wooden Roast Dinner Toy fails to meet safety regulations. Consumers who have bought this playset are being urged to keep it away from children and cease usage immediately.
This toy, produced in China, includes wooden kitchen utensils such as a small knife and tray, along with miniature wooden food items resembling components of a traditional roast dinner.
Authorities have highlighted the risk of choking, particularly for children under three years old. The concern arises from the Velcro attachments on the toy, which can detach during active play, forming small parts that young children may put in their mouths.
The OPSS released a statement explaining, “The product has been recalled due to a choking risk caused by the hook and loop fastening (Velcro) coming off during normal use, leading to small parts.”
A spokesperson from John Lewis emphasized, “Customer safety is our top priority, and we initiated a recall of this toy as a precaution in November. Only the specific affected product line is impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience and are providing full refunds to customers.”
