In the Davis Cup final’s second singles match, the game was interrupted when a spectator in the stands fell ill. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was on the verge of breaking Jaume Munar’s serve when he noticed the fan’s distress.
Munar had taken the first set 6-1 and held a break advantage in the second set before Cobolli had a chance to level the score. The match came to a halt as medical assistance was summoned to the stands, prompting both players to retreat to their seats.
Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his swift response, observing the situation from his vantage point opposite the stand. The crowd’s prompt reaction and Cobolli’s attentiveness to the fan’s condition were acknowledged.
Umpire Marijana Veljovic conversed with the players during the break, while Italian captain Filippo Volandri offered advice to Cobolli. As the fan was escorted out of the stands, Parmar noted the potential delay in play for the individual’s safe removal.
After a delay of approximately ten minutes, Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve and evened the second set at 1-1. Italy led 1-0 coming into the second singles match, following Matteo Berrettini’s victory over Pablo Carreno Busta.
A win for Cobolli would secure Italy’s third consecutive tournament victory, a feat not achieved since the USA’s five-title streak in 1972. However, Munar could force a decisive doubles round with a victory of his own.
Both Italy and Spain entered the final without Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, as both players withdrew before the tournament began.
