Being a beauty editor, the beginning of each year always brings excitement as I learn about various new beauty products, treatments, and trends that are vying to make a mark in the beauty industry. One particular innovation that caught my attention is hair cryotherapy.
With cryotherapy already well-received in the realm of health and wellness, Brazilian brand Hair.TOXX has introduced this technology to hair care. They utilize deeply nourishing products and sub-zero temperatures to rejuvenate, moisturize, and enhance the shine of hair in need of care – claiming to increase shine by up to 264%, as stated by Hair.TOXX.
Given the challenge of making blonde hair reflect light, I visited Haug London Haus salon in London’s Fitzrovia, the pioneering establishment in the UK to introduce this innovative treatment. I was curious to witness its effect on my lackluster, heavily bleached hair…
Hair.TOXX is a personalized repair procedure utilizing products enriched with natural actives from the Amazon rainforest. A sophisticated cryotherapy device is employed to seal in these products, operating at temperatures as low as -16℃.
Initially, the hair is washed twice using a suitable Hair.TOXX shampoo for your specific hair type, excluding the conditioner. A custom treatment is then created by blending a serum and mask, tailored to address your hair’s requirements; for me, a combination of Hair.TOXX’s Revitalizing Serum and Protective Mask was used. This mixture is meticulously applied to sections of the hair during the treatment process.
Subsequently, the hair is exposed to the cryotherapy tool after the mask application. The hair section is swiped twice with a device resembling conventional straighteners attached to a large white box. The unique aspect is that these plates are extremely cold at -16℃, evident by frost formation akin to that seen inside a freezer. This action effectively seals the hair cuticles, trapping the intensive treatment deep within each strand’s core without altering the natural hair texture (unlike procedures that straighten curly hair, such as a Brazilian blowout).
Despite the cold sensation on the hair, there is no discomfort experienced on the scalp or shoulders, unlike the sensation of a cold plunge or icy water under a shower.
To conclude, the treatment is rinsed out, and the hair is styled through blow-drying. Additionally, Hair.TOXX offers a lightweight oil that can be applied before or after blow-drying, if needed.
