An elderly woman passed away following a severe assault on Christmas Day, despite paramedics’ efforts to save her. The woman, aged in her 80s, died at a residence in Devizes, Wiltshire. Subsequently, a 63-year-old woman, identified by the police as being acquainted with the victim, has been apprehended on suspicion of murder. Authorities have stated that no other individuals are being sought in connection with the incident, and investigations are underway to locate the deceased woman’s next of kin.
The 63-year-old suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Police responded to reports of the assault on Keepers Road in Devizes at 8:10 am on Christmas Day, leading to the establishment of a cordon that is expected to remain in place throughout the day.
Detective Inspector Alan Smith, representing the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team, expressed, “This is a tragic event in which an elderly woman lost her life on Christmas Day. We have detained a woman who was acquainted with the victim, and there are no further individuals being sought in relation to this incident. A crime scene has been established at the residence, and a prompt investigation, including door-to-door inquiries, is in progress.”
Smith further stated, “Local residents can anticipate heightened police presence in the vicinity in the upcoming days. If you have any concerns or information, please do not hesitate to approach one of our officers.”
