Conor Benn has criticized his rival Chris Eubank Jr for displaying a ‘victim mentality’ following the release of a troubling video showing Eubank Jr receiving medical treatment in a hospital. The footage depicted Eubank Jr, 36, lying still on a hospital bed connected to various medical devices and surrounded by healthcare personnel.
The video elicited sympathy from many fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should consider retiring, especially after his defeat to Benn in their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, Benn questioned the motives behind Eubank Jr’s video, implying that it might be a ploy to garner sympathy.
Benn, aged 29, disclosed that he had heard about Eubank Jr’s health issues during training camp and after the fight but emphasized that he believes they are not severe health conditions. He urged people to delve deeper into the reasons for posting such videos, hinting at a recurring theme of seeking sympathy and portraying a victim mentality.
Speaking to The Mail, Benn highlighted his own undisclosed struggles, mentioning a past incident where he endured hardships without seeking public sympathy. He emphasized the tough nature of their sport, comparing boxers to modern-day gladiators and stating his resilience in facing challenges without complaint.
In response to the video, Eubank Jr confirmed his intention to continue boxing despite his recent health issues. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and vowed to return to boxing when he has fully recovered, assuring fans of a strong comeback in the future.
