A senior citizen has been arrested for murder following a disturbance on Christmas Day near a retirement community in St Asaph, Denbighshire. Law enforcement responded to a location adjacent to the retirement home where a 68-year-old male was transported to the hospital and subsequently passed away. The police have announced that a 66-year-old individual has been formally charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in court today.
The accused, James Ronald Hughes, aged 66, is set to make a court appearance on Monday, December 29, as per North Wales Police. The authorities have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for further review.
In a statement, North Wales Police disclosed, “A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 68-year-old man in St Asaph. Emergency Services were summoned to a property on the High Street just after noon on Christmas Day after reports of a disturbance. Despite efforts, the man succumbed later that day at the hospital.”
Detective Chief Inspector Eleri Thomas urged potential witnesses in the vicinity of the Old Palace Flats to come forward if they observed or heard anything prior to noon on Christmas Day. Investigations are ongoing with a continued police presence in the area for public reassurance, as reported by Wales Online.
Thomas further clarified, “This incident seems to be an isolated one, and there is no active search for additional suspects. It is crucial to refrain from sharing prejudicial information online that could impact future legal proceedings or jeopardize the judicial process.”
