Cat’s Cross-Country Adventure: Stowaway Travels 100 Miles

A family was astonished to find that their cat had stowed away on the roof of their van and traveled over 100 miles with them. Margaret Denardo, 43, her husband Tony, 49, their daughter Sophia, and three of Sophia’s friends were on a road trip from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire on September 26 for a marathon event.

Initially, the couple believed their eight-year-old cat, Ray Ray, was safe at home. However, during a pit stop after two hours of driving, they discovered Ray Ray perched on top of the van’s luggage carrier. Overcoming the initial shock, Margaret decided to bring Ray Ray along to New Hampshire and later to New York City for a vacation.

Margaret, a writer from Kittanning, Pennsylvania, expressed her shock and concern for Ray Ray being on the roof for an extended period. She shared her relief that he was unharmed and decided to have him accompany them on their trip.

Ray Ray became part of Margaret’s life as a kitten found under their van eight years ago. Margaret remembered discovering him near their farm, speculating that he might have hitched a ride from there. Ray Ray, accustomed to being an indoor-outdoor cat, is known for his independent nature, which likely led him to climb onto the van’s roof.

Margaret and her husband allowed Ray Ray to continue the journey with them, including a detour to a pet store to get supplies for their unexpected feline travel companion. They resumed their trip as planned after ensuring Ray Ray had everything he needed for the adventure.
