Calls for Ofcom Probe into GB News’ Trump Interview

GB News’ recent interview with former US President Donald Trump has sparked calls for an investigation by Ofcom. Campaign group 38 Degrees lodged an official complaint with the broadcasting regulator, supported by over 65,000 signatures on a petition questioning the interview’s adherence to impartiality standards.

Critics highlight that during the interview, Trump’s controversial statements on climate change being a “hoax,” derogatory remarks about immigrants, and baseless claims regarding crime in London went unchallenged. Matthew McGregor, CEO of 38 Degrees, emphasized the public outcry over the perceived one-sidedness of the interview, urging for a thorough review.

McGregor stressed the importance of upholding journalistic integrity and fact-checking, regardless of the interviewee’s status. Trump’s disparaging comments about London’s crime rate and Mayor Sadiq Khan were refuted with official crime data showing a decrease in violent incidents across the city.

Trump’s dismissive stance on renewable energy and climate change as a “hoax” drew further criticism, with him labeling immigrants as “scum” in a message directed at European leaders. The controversial remarks have ignited widespread debate over journalistic responsibility and the need for media accountability.

The call for investigation stems from concerns about potential misinformation and bias in the interview, prompting a closer look at GB News’ editorial standards and commitment to factual reporting.
