Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks, known for their easy access to premium entertainment like movies and sports at affordable prices, are facing a crackdown on unauthorized streaming. The company has announced plans to block unofficial apps that enable access to pirated content.
An Amazon spokesperson stated that piracy is illegal, and they are working with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) to identify and block such apps. Customers are already receiving warning messages on their screens signaling the upcoming changes.
Launching a suspicious app triggers an alert informing users that the software has been flagged for providing access to unlicensed content. While users can still open the app, Amazon’s detection suggests a potential ban in the future.
The full blocking initiative will start in Europe first, with UK devices expected to follow. Despite the crackdown on illegal streaming, rising subscription costs remain a key issue. Media analyst Paolo Pescatore believes the action is a positive step but highlights the financial burden on consumers due to increasing fees for live sports rights.
