The Canadian government has given the green light for a $76 million emergency relief package to assist Flair Airlines as the escalating costs of jet fuel continue to impact airline finances. Len Corrado, the CEO of Flair, emphasized in an interview that this financial assistance highlights the government’s acknowledgment of the significant challenges faced by the industry and its commitment to maintaining competitiveness.
Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. has disclosed that the approved bailout loans aim to counter the sharp rise in fuel expenses and facilitate more affordable airfare rates. The loan terms specify a repayment period of four years, with interest rates set below prevailing market levels.
In a related development, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has obtained $430 million in financial support following the onset of the conflict in Iran in late February. The conflict-induced surge in energy costs has caused jet fuel prices to nearly double compared to a year ago.
Moreover, Porter Airlines recently benefitted from a $125 million bailout loan, as confirmed by the government.
