At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday evening, the intense medical drama “The Pitt,” led by Noah Wyle, secured top honors, winning best drama series and best lead actor for Wyle. With 25 nominations, the HBO show was a frontrunner for the night.
However, it was Apple TV’s comedy-horror series, “Widow’s Bay,” that stole the show, clinching the coveted best comedy series award, along with multiple other accolades such as best lead actor in a comedy series, best supporting actor and actress in a comedy series, and exceptional writing and directing in a comedy series. The show walked away with a total of 14 Emmys out of 19 nominations.
Another Apple TV hit, the post-apocalyptic series “Pluribus,” also received recognition, taking home several awards from its 18 nominations, including best lead actress in a drama and outstanding writing.
Meanwhile, HBO’s dark comedy “DTF St. Louis” emerged victorious in several categories, including best limited series.
The esteemed Bob Hope Humanitarian Award was presented to actor and philanthropist Michael J. Fox, 65, for his significant contributions to Parkinson’s disease research.
The evening was hosted by Mariska Hargitay, star of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” who herself received Emmys for the documentary “My Mom Jayne” during the earlier Creative Arts Emmys.
