A movie theater in Prince George, B.C. faced a dilemma when promotional posters for the film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” went missing. To remedy the situation, employee and artist Drake Landon was tasked with creating a replacement poster inspired by the internet meme character Spooderman.
Landon explained that due to a shipping error, the theater did not receive the official Spider-Man posters, prompting him to draw a Spooderman-themed poster instead. Despite being capable of drawing the actual Spider-Man, Landon chose to embrace the Spooderman style to match the film’s “Brand New Day” design.
Beneath his hand-drawn poster, Landon included a message apologizing for the absence of the original posters and any resulting inconvenience. The unique poster caught the eye of movie-goer Adam Woodrow, who found it impressive during a visit to the theater with his son.
After Rogan, Woodrow’s son, shared a photo of Landon next to the Spooderman poster online, the artwork gained significant attention across various platforms, including the Marvel Studios subreddit where it garnered over 54,000 upvotes. Encouraged by the positive feedback, some have suggested that Landon should create more movie posters or sell his Spooderman drawings, although he typically enjoys drawing robots and intricate machinery in his free time.
Craig Landon, Drake’s father, expressed pride in his son’s creativity and the recognition he has received. While Cineplex plans to replace the hand-drawn poster with the official “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” poster, they intend to find a new display location for Landon’s creation within the theater. Looking ahead, Landon aspires to produce prints of his now-famous poster.
