He explained that he has always referred to his daughter as just “Miley,” a name that originated from her being called “Smiley” due to her constant smiling as a baby. The name Miley stuck over time.
Billy Ray Cyrus also introduced Miley to Dolly Parton, whom he befriended while touring as her opening act. Parton was later named Miley’s godmother by Cyrus. Both Billy Ray and Miley have expressed their deep sorrow over the recent passing of Dolly Parton.
On the day of Parton’s death, Billy Ray Cyrus turned 65 and emphasized the importance of family during this time. He expressed support for Miley’s decision to perform under a single name, likening it to other iconic artists like Dolly and Cher. This adjustment does not appear to be an official name change for Miley but rather a strategic rebranding.
